Wharf of Jamestown CAN has just finished some works in St Helena, a British Overseas Territory located in the South Atlantic Ocean 1.200 miles from the South-East of Africa and 1.800 miles from the coast of South America. The project concerned protection measures for the cliff above Jamestown wharf.
Saint Helena is really remote: 5 days of see from Le Cap or 3 from the Anglo-American military base in Ascension are necessary to reach the island as it offers no airport and no port either. Vessels must anchor offshore and must be self (un)loading. St Helena uses local lighters and barges for ship-to-shore movements. This project of cliff stabilization was technically not complicated but exceptional in terms of logistics and organization.
